At last! After decades of consultation and frustration, ISO 45001 was published 12 March 2018 as the first international OHS management system standard! There will be a three year transition period but most companies will want to adopt the international standard sooner than later. Standards Australia will now decide whether to adopt ISO 45001 and replace AS 4801, but don’t hold your breath! ISO 45001 has been approved as the first OHS management system standard! Over the weekend 27-28 January, ISO voted 93% to approve the new Standard.  Such a high approval vote illustrates just how urgently industry requires a truly international standard to base OHS management system upon. Once published, there will be a three transition period and local standards such as OHSAS 18001 and AS 4801 will be replaced. ISO 45001:2018 will be published 12 March 2018! ...

ISO has voted for ISO 45001 to move to the Final Draft International Stage (FDIS) for the new international OHS Standard.  FDIS 45001 is expected to be published late November 2017 for final comment.  ISO 45001 is still expected to be published before June 2018.  On publication of ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001 will be withdrawn and certified organisations will have three years to transition to ISO 45001.

A food recall is action taken to remove unsafe food from distribution, sale and consumption. All food businesses must be able to quickly remove food from the marketplace to protect public health and safety. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ)coordinates and monitors food recalls in Australia. The NSQHS Standards (second edition) have been endorsed by health ministers and will be launched in November 2017. Assessment to the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (second edition) will begin from 1 January 2019. Health service organisations will be informed of the transition arrangements for accreditation well in advance of implementation. Many employer and employee organisations are strongly opposed to two proposals for ISO to review ISO 26000:2010 (Guidance on Social Responsibility). The proposals are to create an ISO Technical Committee (TC) on Social Responsibility and for the document itself to be reviewed; ISO will vote on 10th October 2017. The Bates Group of Companies, TQCSI and JLB are celebrating their newly renovated office space this week after a 3 month, top to bottom renovation and modernisation of their 20 year old office block in Hendon, Adelaide.
